Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of Abbotsford Field Hockey Club's ("AFHC") website, registration services, and participation in any AFHC programmes or events. By registering or using our services, you agree to these Terms.

1. Registration and Eligibility

Registration is open to players meeting the age requirements of their chosen programme. Players must be registered by a parent or legal guardian if under 18 years of age. AFHC reserves the right to decline or cancel registrations at its discretion.

2. Fees and Payment

Registration fees are set each season and posted on the AFHC website. Fees must be paid in full before a player may participate in practices or games. AFHC accepts e-transfer payments to etransfer@abbotsfordfieldhockey.ca. Payment by credit or debit card is available via our Stripe donation link.

2.1 Refund Policy

Refunds are available upon written request received at least 14 days before the programme start date. Requests received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Administration fees may apply. Refunds are not available once the programme has commenced except in cases of injury or extenuating circumstances at the discretion of AFHC management.

3. Code of Conduct

All players, parents, coaches, and spectators are expected to adhere to AFHC's Code of Conduct, which is based on Field Hockey Canada's Safe Sport standards. This includes:

  • Treating all participants with respect and dignity
  • Using appropriate language and behaviour at all times
  • Respecting officials, coaches, and opponents
  • Not engaging in any form of harassment, discrimination, or abuse
  • Refraining from unsportsmanlike conduct

Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in suspension or permanent removal from AFHC programmes without refund.

4. Safe Sport Policy

AFHC is committed to Safe Sport principles as defined by Sport Canada and Field Hockey BC. We operate under a zero-tolerance policy for maltreatment in sport. All coaches hold current Safe Sport certifications. Concerns may be reported to our Safe Sport Officer at safesport@abbotsfordfieldhockey.ca or directly to the Sport Integrity Commissioner of Canada.

5. Liability Waiver

Participation in field hockey involves inherent physical risks including, but not limited to, cuts, bruises, sprains, fractures, and other injuries. By registering, you acknowledge these risks and agree that AFHC, its directors, coaches, and volunteers are not liable for injuries sustained during participation, provided such injuries do not result from gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

AFHC maintains liability insurance through its affiliation with Field Hockey BC. All players are covered under the programme's group accident insurance during official practices and competitions.

6. Photography and Media

AFHC may capture and use photographs and video footage of players at practices, games, and events for club promotion. Separate consent is requested during registration (see our Privacy Policy). If you do not consent, please notify us in writing.

7. SMS / Text Message Programme Terms

By opting in to receive SMS communications from AFHC, you agree to the following terms governing our A2P (Application-to-Person) messaging programme:

7.1 Programme Description

Abbotsford Field Hockey Club ("AFHC", "we", shortcode/long-code operator) offers an SMS messaging programme to keep members informed about registrations, schedules, game cancellations, tournaments, and other club-related updates.

7.2 How to Opt In

You may opt in to our SMS programme by ticking the SMS consent checkbox on the online registration form. Opt-in is entirely voluntary.

7.3 Message Frequency

Message frequency varies. During active seasons (typically September–March and May–August) you may receive up to six (6) messages per month. During the off-season, message frequency is lower.

7.4 Message and Data Rates

Msg & data rates may apply.Standard text message and data rates charged by your mobile carrier may apply to messages sent and received. AFHC does not charge for SMS messages; however, your carrier's standard rates apply.

7.5 How to Opt Out

You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any AFHC text message. After you send STOP, we will send a one-time confirmation message and then cease sending messages to your number. You can re-subscribe at any time by contacting us.

7.7 Consent Is Not a Condition of Purchase or Registration

You are not required to opt in to SMS communications as a condition of registering for any AFHC programme, event, or service. Consent to receive text messages is entirely optional.

7.8 Privacy of Mobile Phone Data

Your mobile phone number is used solely to deliver AFHC programme communications. We do not sell, share, or trade your mobile number to third parties for their marketing purposes. Message delivery is facilitated by our authorised messaging platform provider, which is bound by confidentiality obligations. For full details, see our SMS Privacy section.

7.9 Programme Availability

SMS messages are sent via long-code numbers registered under the Canadian 10DLC (10-digit long code) or US A2P 10DLC framework as applicable. Programme support may vary by mobile carrier. AFHC is not responsible for delays or failures in message delivery caused by carrier issues.

8. Website Use

You may use the AFHC website for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not use the website to transmit harmful, offensive, or unlawful content, or to attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its infrastructure.

AFHC makes reasonable efforts to keep website content accurate and up to date but does not warrant that all information is complete, current, or error-free.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on the AFHC website — including text, images, graphics, logos, and video — is the property of AFHC or its content suppliers and is protected by Canadian copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without prior written permission.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia.

11. Changes to These Terms

AFHC reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated to registered members by email. Continued participation in AFHC programmes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
