Senior Field Hockey in Abbotsford, BC
Is This the Right Program?
The AFHC Senior program is for adults who want to play field hockey at any level -- whether you are a former university or provincial athlete returning to the game, a recreational player looking for a great community, or someone who has never picked up a stick but wants to learn in a supportive adult environment. We run two streams: a competitive club team that plays in the BC Field Hockey Metro league system, and a recreational co-ed team that plays social fixtures on Sunday evenings. Our competitive senior team trains three times per week and participates in provincial-level club competition. Players are expected to be technically proficient in the full range of field hockey skills and to bring a serious attitude to training. That said, we believe that being serious about improvement and having fun are not mutually exclusive -- our senior environment is demanding but welcoming, and we have one of the most close-knit player communities in the Fraser Valley. The recreational stream is exactly what it sounds like: a chance to play the sport you love without the full commitment of a competitive team. Sessions are skills-focused in the first half and free-game in the second. Whether you played at U16 ten years ago or just moved to Abbotsford from somewhere with an active field hockey culture, you will find a home in our senior recreational program.
