U16 Competitive in Abbotsford, BC
Is This the Right Program?
The U16 program at Abbotsford Field Hockey Club is built for players who are committed to reaching the highest levels of field hockey available in BC. At this age, the gap between club players and provincial-program athletes begins to define future opportunities, and our U16 coaching staff designs every session with that reality in mind. Players aged 14-15 who train in this program are working toward provincial selections, university recruitment, and potentially national junior pathways. Sessions are structured around the periodized training model used by BC Field Hockey's High Performance program. That means dedicated phases for technical work, tactical development, physical preparation, and competition. Video analysis is incorporated on a monthly basis, and each player receives individual technical reports twice per season. The standard is high, the feedback is direct, and the culture rewards hard work and continuous improvement. With two training sessions per week and competitive league fixtures, the time commitment for U16 is substantial. We are transparent about this expectation at registration: this program is for athletes who want to excel, not just participate. Families driving from Chilliwack, Mission, or Langley consistently tell us it is worth the commute.
