U12 Competitive in Abbotsford, BC
Is This the Right Program?
The U12 program marks a meaningful step up in the competitive journey for Abbotsford Field Hockey Club players. At this age, the game transitions from 7-a-side to a full 11-a-side pitch, and tactical awareness becomes as important as individual technique. U12 players are developing young athletes who are ready to think critically about the game and take on greater responsibility within a team structure. Our U12 coaches are experienced competitive players and certified NCCP coaches who design training sessions that balance technical refinement with game intelligence. Players at this level are expected to demonstrate proficiency in core skills -- accurate push pass, receiving on the move, and basic hit -- and to apply those skills in varied team scenarios. We introduce principles of structured defending, set pieces, and positional discipline while still maintaining a player-centred, fun-first atmosphere. The U12 team competes in the BC Field Hockey Fraser Valley League and participates in at least two provincial-level festivals per season. For families in the Fraser Valley region -- Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, and beyond -- AFHC U12 provides one of the most well-structured youth club environments in the province.
